Virtual career fairs vs. in-person career fairs

Virtual fairs: These video-chat recruiting events coordinated and held on Handshake allow students to sign up for 10-minute, 1:1 virtual meetings or virtual group sessions with employers. Talk with employers via your personal device about full-time, internship, and part-time paid job opportunities.

You must sign up for INDIVIDUAL 1:1 SESSIONS or GROUP SESSIONS on Handshake to participate!

  • Sign up for 10-minute INDIVIDUAL 1:1 SESSIONs to video chat with a recruiter about working at the company.
  • Sign up for a virtual GROUP SESSION for a presentation to learn about the company and their jobs.

In-person fairs: These in-person recruiting events allow students to meet face-to-face with employers at a specific location on campus. Bring your resume (hardcopy and on your phone) to the events and discuss full-time, internship, and part-time paid job opportunities with hiring recruiters. Each employer will have a booth you can visit to talk with recruiters about the available opportunities.

Step-by-step instructions

Virtual fairs listed on Handshake

Step 1. Download the Handshake mobile app or access Handshake on your computer at https://wayne.joinhandshake.com/edu.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Right under the name, date, and time of the fair, there are three tabs:

  1. CAREER FAIR DETAILS -the default tab that loads the fair details and lists the employers attending. Click on the employer's name for their available jobs and company information.
  2. AVAILABLE SESSIONS - click this tab to review available employer sessions and select time spots.
  3. YOUR SCHEDULE OR SESSIONS - once you've signed up for at least one session, this is where the session details are listed (and how you'll join the session when it starts).

Step 3. Sign up for sessions with employers

  1. Click on All Sessions (Mobile App) or Available Sessions (computer). This will list all the companies and their sessions.
  2. Find the company you'd like to talk with.

  4. Select a time that works with your schedule.

Do this for each company you want to talk with. You should be able to see the sessions you signed up for under Your Sessions.

Step 4: Talk to the employers on the day of the fair.

  • Log into Handshake at the time you signed up to speak with employers.
  • Go to Events and click on the virtual Fair.
  • Go to Your Sessions and click on the session when it starts.
