Biography

Shawn Pewitt is a Student Success Enthusiast with more than 16 years of experience in career strategies, mentoring and professional development. She is dedicated to pursuing diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice as she offers leadership and educates students. She enjoys connecting students with their passion, purpose, educational pursuits, and experiential learning opportunities.

Originally from Lansing, Michigan she acquired both her bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Detroit Mercy, where she majored in History and Liberal Arts. She completed training in Career Development Facilitation, obtained a certificate in Workplace Diversity and is a Certified Career Services Provider.

During the fall of 2019, she was selected as the Interim Director of Career Services at Wayne State University and led her team in enhancing online resources and creative ways of providing virtual services during the COVID-19 crisis.

April 3, 2023, she was appointed as the Director of Career Services. She is excited about how Wayne State University Career Services can invigorate collaboration with employers, the campus community, empower students to design their lives and provide innovative college to career connections for students.

She has facilitated workshops on many topics including teambuilding, self-awareness, leadership, networking, workplace diversity, equity and inclusion, professionalism, personal statements and identifying your skills.

She remains active in several State and National organizations including the MI-ACE Senior- Level Leadership Shadow Program Planning Committee, Michigan Career Educator & Employer Alliance (MCEEA) where she served as President in 2021-2022, Midwest Association of Colleges and Employers (Midwest ACE), and the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) where she serves on the Advocacy Committee.
